The Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra (CSYO) is looking for talented musicians to join the orchestra for the 2008–2009 season — its 45th. Membership is open to students entering grades 9–12 who participate in their school music programs and are able to commit to attending weekly rehearsals (Sunday afternoons) for the entire season.

To receive application materials, please call 513.744.3333 and leave your name, address and phone number, or print and complete our application form. (Download Acrobat Reader.) Audition materials will be sent to you within 10 days from when we receive your application.

All audition applications should be received at the CSYO office (1241 Elm St., Cincinnati, OH 45202) by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, 2008 to guarantee an audition time. Applications or calls received after Aug. 15 will be assigned audition times if they are available.

Auditions will take place at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Aug. 23-28. Specific dates and times for each instrument are listed on the application form, and there is space for you to indicate preferred audition times and note any conflicts. Once an application is received, we will mail you an audition time, excerpts and other audition information to aid you in preparing for your audition. (View the Audition Format.)

Please note that you must be active in your school music program (if any) in order to be eligible for the CSYO. To verify this, the application form requires the signature of your school music director. In addition, CSYO members are strongly encouraged to study their instrument privately, so the form requires your private teacher's signature. Since these signatures may be difficult to obtain during the summer months, you may return your application without one or both of the required signatures in order to meet the Aug. 15 application deadline. Should you audition successfully, you will be provisionally accepted and sent a copy of the application form to be signed by the appropriate person(s). If you are unable to get the appropriate signatures within two weeks of the first rehearsal, you will forfeit your position for the 2008-2009 season.

Please carefully review the 2008-2009 concert schedule on the CSYO page to ensure that you will be able to make the commitment to the CSYO for the entire season. Attendance at concerts and rehearsals is required.

Tuition
Tuition is $200 per year ($150 for additional members of the same family). A limited number of partial tuition remissions are available to students on the basis of need. Once students are accepted into the program, parents may call the CSO Education Office at 513.744.3333, for further information about scholarships or to arrange a payment plan.
